When first I saw your face I wanted to embrace

The hope you held for me before another took your place

And built a wall to cast a shadow where the light of love can't fall

But shadows ain't what this life is all about at all.

If you ever change your mind you know I'll still be here

'Cos I'm really not the kind to split and disappear

After all those shattered dreams are just some shadows on a wall

And shadows ain't what this life is all about at all.

Shadows big and small painting patterns on a wall

Can only last a while before they fall

And shadows throwing shapes are never what it takes

For shadows ain't what this life is all about at all.

We gotta reach out to each other when the shadows go to sleep

Like true blood brothers we've got promises to keep

After all those shattered dreams are just some shadows on a wall

And shadows ain't what this life is all about at all.

Shadows big and small painting patterns on a wall

Can only last a while before they fall

And shadows throwing shapes are never what it takes

For shadows ain't what this life is all about at all.

The genesis of these lyrics was the redundancy of the Berlin Wall with the reunification of Germany. However, we intend that they should "work" on a number of levels.
