Covid Talk - Quareness Series 145th "Lecture".

A short play with two quare fellas in a bar somewhere: -

Scene 1.

1st Fella..."Ah howya head...how's she cuttin'?"

2nd Lad..."Not too bad...ya know yerself."

1st..."What ya havin'?"

2nd..."A pint 'o porter if ya please there Séamus."

1st..."How ya copin' wid all this covid carry on?"

2nd..."Well now I was wonderin' whether should I take the jab if I already had the covid."

1st..."I heard that ya should be poked regardless of whether ya already had it. This is because d'experts say they don't know how long yer protected from being fecked again after recovery."

2nd..."That sounds like we don't know how long the natural immunity lasts...so I wonder how long does the jab immunity last."

1st..."Looks like that's true alright...and neither do they yet know how long the protection lasts for the jabbed."

2nd..."If we don't know either way, how come they're sayin' the poke immunity is better than any naturally acquired one...like for many previous viral infections?"

1st..."Looks like the natural version could possibly last longer...who knows?"

2nd..."Okay...but maybe if I take the jab I won't get sick?"

1st..."Not really...seems d'experts haven't said ya wouldn't get sick...just that if ya did ya likely wouldn't get seriously ill or die."

2nd..."Oh okay...do they have any real idea how much the jab would reduce my chance of serious illness?"

1st..."No."

2nd..."Say if gettin' the jab has no great health benefit for me...is there any other reason to get it?"

1st..."They say it's a great benefit for the collective."

2nd..."How come?"

1st..."Because ya could spread the virus to someone else who might get sick and die."

2nd..."Can a poked person spread the virus to someone else?"

1st..."Seemingly so."

2nd..."This is confusin'...seems we can still catch the covid and spread it after gettin' poked when a major reason for gettin' the jab in the first place was to prevent such spreadin'."

1st..."Apparently if ya stay unpoked there's a chance that the virus could possibly mutate into a strain that escapes the poke's protection...and this could put all the poked people at risk again."

2nd..."That sounds like the jab stops the virus from mutatin'?"

1st..."No...they say it can still mutate in poked people."

2nd..."This is gettin' really confusin'...if being jabbed doesn't stop mutations or infections, how does anybody gettin' poked help prevent a more deadly strain from evolvin' to escape the poke?"

1st..."The bottom line for d'experts is that the unpoked pose a threat to the poked in that they could get a serious dose of the covid and possibly die."

2nd..."At this stage I'm lost...first of all we're told that the jab doesn't keep people from catchin' the covid but prevents any serious case or dyin'...and now it seems poked people can still die even after being jabbed just by runnin' into an unpoked person...me head hurts."

1st..."Ah feck it...life's too short for all this worryin'...will ya have another one?"

Curtain down on Scene 1.

Scene 2.

2nd Fella..."How's the man...what ya havin'?"

1st Lad..."Another pint o' porter please Séamus."

2nd..."Been thinkin' more about that covid worry chat we had d'other day...and it occurred to me that if d'experts don't really know what they're doin', that's a scary thought...on d'other hand if they know exactly what they're doin', that's an even scarier thought...and either way if billions of people are puttin' blind faith in them, that's the scariest thought."

1st..."Yeah...the whole thing seems to revolve more around whether our individual immune systems are sufficiently healthy or otherwise."

2nd..."True...and maybe maintainin' an efficient immune system depends on regular exposure to challenge...but due to our modern models of medical intervention and social development we may be largely missin' out on such and our natural immune systems normally now have hardly any job to do."

1st..."Come to think of it...isn't it a bit odd that so many millions of people such as medical, retail, etc. personnel exposed daily to the covid aren't fallin' seriously ill or dyin'...makes ya wonder if continual exposure to diseases and viruses in itself can boost our immune system...and maybe tryin' to avoid all exposure is not helpin' ourselves to become immune?"

2nd..."I wonder are we lookin' at a wider malaise here?...there's been a growin' assumption that a natural ability to handle unregulated behaviour, conversation, etc. doesn't exist...drivin' the notion that artificial intervention is superior to natural ability and even portrayin' any refusal to engage with the artificial as socially cruel and selfish."

1st..."Now I can't help wonderin' if we could be lookin' at a new artificial immunity market replacin' all natural immunity...with a life-long subscription and an ever-expandin' range of necessary upgrades...and with customer loyalty more or less guaranteed should the artificial succeed in destroyin' the natural."

2nd..."And another thing...if people can openly say what they think and everyone survives unscarred, this doesn't help sell censorship or modification of behaviour as a means of protectin' others."

1st..."Holy Moly ya could be right there Ted...if we are to be regarded as lackin' the ability to talk over differences or process information and make reasonable sense of it, or if our natural ability to communicate in a healthy way is artificially impaired through social engineerin', loads of profitable new needs can be generated."

2nd..."In a way everything is possible in an artificial world...useless eaters say are not so useless in a fully controlled environment, as long as they are seen as data bundles...they could have needs defined by the profit seekers and any improvement in their condition could be plugged into various investment models."

1st..."Yeah...maybe if they're prone to say gettin' infected with a virus and need a jab...or maybe some other intervention or behaviour alteration is called for because of say climate change...drivin' so many new market opportunities."

2nd..."How about this for a lark...government announces important public needs...big business receives piles of dosh from government to solve those needs...and the solutions are dumped onto the useless eaters regardless of what they think...the general public cannot choose as they become part-owned by corporations...welcome to dystopia."

1st..."For feck sake...we humans are not designed to live like remote-controlled mechanical soldiers or meatbags...we'll wind up in a very bleak place if we don't soon wake up to the anatomy of what's in store for us in the New Normal."

2nd..."Yer right there again Ted."

1st..."These sure are good pints alright...Sláinte."
