The Informed Body - Quareness Series 108th "Lecture".
What has been dubbed "the poetry of direct human experience" suggests that we be beings of light as well as of the atoms and molecules that make up our bodies.
Indeed it has been discovered that biophotons (= elementary particles of electro-magnetic energy or quanta of light of non-thermal origin in the visible and ultraviolet spectrum emitted from a biological system) emitted by the human body can be released through mental intention and may even modulate fundamental processes within cell-to-cell communication and DNA. Considering that our earthly existence is partially formed from sunlight and requires the continual consumption of condensed sunlight in the form of food, the idea that the body itself emits light doesn't seem so strange. And such a notion sits easily with one previously envisaged by David Bohm (the American theoretical physicist) that life is comprised of a perpetual "holomovement" or endless sea of light, whereby matter can be regarded as the crystallised manifestation of light energy.
After centuries of materialism, reductionism and secularisation, our food is largely defined/regarded in terms of its economic value as a commodity and its nutritional value as a source of physical sustenance i.e. in terms only of what is measurable. Nevertheless the matter of how the arrangement of atoms within our food has such power as to put us into our "miraculous" form remains somewhat mysterious and maybe part of the explanation lies in the idea that it's the information within food that really counts.
The conventional nutritional (outdated?) view sees food as either a source of energy (calorie content) or material building blocks (macro and micronutrients) without really taking into account that it contains signalling molecules affecting and actively regulating gene expression. And with this latter assumed aspect of a key regulatory factor, we can see a reflection of the perhaps original meaning of food for us..."that which puts form into" the human body. Indeed information quite literally means "to put form into".
Does food really incorporate such vital information for us? Currently we understand that the human genome only contains about seventeen carbohydrate-digesting enzyme templates, of which nine have not yet been fully characterised, whereas the gut bacteria contains genetic information capable of helping to degrade thousands of different carbohydrates. In this sense we can reasonably regard the microbiome (in all food) as an information storehouse that radically transforms the definition of food from the matter/energy dichotomy to a living reservoir of vitally important genetic information. And the potential implications for human health are significant e.g. food technologies such as cold pasteurisation (gamma irradiated food) and chemical treatments that alter the microbiome dysbiotically, must dramatically alter the qualitative/informational content of the food.
When we come to understand it as information, we'll more easily comprehend that food can be (indeed is) a highly targeted and powerful form of medicine capable of altering the expression of thousands of genes in a manner not reproducible via synthetic medicines. And when we acknowledge this in the animals, bacteria, fungi and plants we use as food as essential for maintaining and regulating our own genetic template for well-being, we might more clearly come to see that we cannot continue to degrade the biosphere without affecting ourselves and the overall destiny of our species.
The human body emits quanta of electromagnetic energy called biophotons, also known as biophoton emission (BPE) or ultraweak photon emissions (UPE), with a visibility a thousand times lower than the sensitivity of our naked eye. And a reconception of human beings as bodies of light may pave the way for newfound modalities of detecting and treating diseases...“ultra-weak photon emission is a common phenomenon and carries information about its generating processes, and is closely related to photosynthesis, lipid peroxidation, catabolism, free radical reactions, radiation effects, detoxification and carcinogenic effects, aging and death process” (per Yang M., J. Pang, J. Liu, Y. Liu, H. Fan and J. Han - “Spectral discrimination between healthy people and cold patients using spontaneous photon emission.” Biomedical Optical Express 6 2015, p.1331). Also because UPE is an intrinsic attribute of all biological systems resulting from the relaxation of electronically excited species in turn stemming from metabolic processes, its evaluation provides opportunity for assessment of food quality and the medicinal properties of herbs.
Researchers are now speculating that the electromagnetic body (incorporating knowledge on MGR - mitogenetic radiation) may be a medium through which consciousness is projected. Earlier work had shown that this MGR constituting the high-energy transfer of energy that induces cell division via UPE, cannot occur without one photon of ultraviolet light. And it seems that not only do biophotons promote cell growth and differentiation, but they are also required for cell-to-cell communication.
The order of the radiation, and not its intensity, is what is integral to biophoton dynamics...this is so because the photon emissions involved are ultra-weak. Likewise biophotons embody the property of coherence whereby biological efficiency is inversely related to intensity. In this way the human body exhibits not only entropy (adhering to the second order of thermodynamics), but also behaves in a dynamic consistent with centropy (inverse of entropy) whereby order increases and matter is electrified. In this sense we may be understood to deviate from thermodynamic equilibrium and embody properties of chaos and dissipation. Here we can maybe appreciate the emerging view that our physical body operates more as an energy biocomputer than a mechanistic machine and that biophotons, quantum coherence and electronic excitation comprise the essence of its life. And functioning under non-equilibrium thermodynamics, it exhibits receptivity to bioenergetic fields and energetic forms of consciousness that interpenetrate and commingle to form the totality of our being?
The onset of hairlessness in human evolution (occurring about 2 million years ago) appears to have been an adaptation or mutation which traded off the protective and endothermically ideal hair covering for the metabolic advantages of melanin-mediated sunlight harvesting. Thus did photomelanometabolism come to be fundamental for our metabolism?
Humanity may now be in the early stages of recognising the ability of our bodies to receive and emit energy and information directly from sunlight and indeed that our sun and moon both affect biophoton emissions through gravitational influences. Recent findings (2012) have shown that the lunisolar tidal force (to which the Sun contributes 30% and the Moon 60% of the combined gravitational acceleration) regulates a number of features of plant growth here on Earth.
Given that the majority of our planet’s surface and our body’s interior is comprised of water, the response of water molecules to light and their coordinated organisation also appear to be quite relevant to our understanding here. We now know that water exists in four phases - solid, liquid, vapor and a gel phase known as exclusion zone EZ water (incidently in which all of our bodily intercellular fluid is immersed) - and this extensive liquid-crystalline fourth phase expands with absorption of electromagnetic energy in the form of light. EZ water in turn contains more molecular energy than "straight" H2O, making it more dense and negatively charged...the absorption of any
spectrum of radiant energy splits water molecules into positive and negative moieties, with the former binding them to create freely diffusing hydronium ions and the latter constituting the elementary units that build the EZ. There is a quite noticeable symmetry between this process of additional assimilation of light energy engendering such further charge separation and the main aspect of photosynthesis converting "photo-generated" excitations in a wide diversity of nature's light-harvesting
structures (plants, etc.) to charge separation with very high efficiency. Unlike the earlier view that saw water merely as the background carrier of these other molecules, this "structured" EZ water now appears to envelop every macromolecule and to be quintessential to every cellular process.
This relatively new and expanded understanding of water may well have many positive implications for our human health e.g. the potential energy stored in water and amplified by additional incident light energy can potentially power work in the form of flow (vascular and other). Given the accepted recognition that hydration status and water homeostasis are critical determinants of health, the higher dipole moment of EZ water may also translate into better hydration of cells. EZ water may even explicate the therapeutic properties of renowned healing bodies of waters such as those of the Ganges and Lourdes, fed by glacial melt or underground springs and many of which may experience pressure from above that assembles ordered water from liquid water.
A word on the role of antioxidants. It seems humans bear net negative charge since our cells (= 60% of our body mass) and components of our extracellular matrix (e.g. elastin and collagen) all possess negative polarity and absorb EZ water. Those components that bear positive charge (including expired air, perspiration, urine and our gastrointestinal system) apparently function to eliminate positive charge in the form of excess protons from the body. While plants can discharge positive charge via direct connection to the negatively charged earth, animals require antioxidants to counteract oxidation (= the molecular process by which electrons are lost, thus robbing molecules of their net negative charge). Here we can see food as imparting information in the form of antioxidants which preserve health by reducing molecules via electron donation to help maintain proper bodily negativity. In the absence of antioxidants to neutralise them, accumulation of free radicals (highly reactive molecular species with an unpaired electron in an atomic orbital) culminates in oxidative stress potentially leading on to disease via damage to proteins, lipids and nucleic acids.
We human beings may well have a built-in ability to utilise a process akin to photosynthesis...using light energy to create work through the vehicle of water. And rather than merely engulfing and bathing the more integral molecular figures in the biochemical symphony, water (representing an informational powerhouse) may constitute a central player in the orchestra?
Human intention (the so-called ghost in the machine) too may have an empirical basis in biophotons, a notion echoed earlier by the German theoretical physicist Max Planck who conceived of matter as a derivative of consciousness. It's understood that direct intention may manifest as an electrical and magnetic energy producing an ordered flux of photons, and the directed streams of photons (stored in the genetic material) can send messages from one body part to another as well as to the extraneous environment. Thus our intentions can seem to operate as highly coherent frequencies capable of changing the molecular structure of matter e.g. we may conceive of abstract and esoteric phenomena such as hypnosis, extrasensory perception, stigmata, the placebo effect, the efficacy of prayer and instances of spontaneous remission or remote healing, in terms of the power of beliefs and intention mediated by photonic light particles. Moreover, the healing power of BPE (synchronised with macrocosmic-level gravitational, diurnal and geomagnetic forces) could theoretically be harnessed by taking advantage of the lunar, solar and seasonal cycles. And such notions appear to be quite compatible with the idea that the cellular, human and cosmic "languages" are all connected through electromagnetic, mechanical, chemical concentration and gravitational waves.
Recent research is now revealing that in addition to the human body radiating light in the form of those ultra weak biophotonic emissions, it also emits electromagnetic fields since electromagnetic waves are generated when electrical charges move. It seems we are in fact beings of electricity as well as entities of light within an integrated coherence which is responsible for defining qualities of living systems...
including exquisite sensitivity to signals, efficient energy transfer and far-ranging coordination of activities. And this coherence of the body would appear to have implications for the energetic nature of social interactions, the contribution of bioelectromagnetism to physiological processes, the role of positive emotionality in health, as well as the interaction between people and the electromagnetic field in which the earth is enmeshed.
Positive emotions appear to be associated with greater degrees of coherence i.e more stable and harmonious interactions in the rhythmic activity of the oscillatory systems of the body (such as synchronisation between cardiac, digestive, neurologocal, etc. rhythms) due to the subsystems of the body vibrating at the resonant frequency of the holistic system. And this in turn suggests that our organisms may essentially be systems of resonant oscillators...kinda like musical instruments.
It's also now starting to look like group communication, social unity and collective group intentions can be explained by an unseen bioenergetic field that connects and informs the behaviour of members in highly coherent groups. And this mechanism may function through the electromagnetic field radiated by a person’s heart which encodes frequency spectra that communicates information about an individual’s emotional state into the social milieu. Indeed it seems this can also promote synchronicity in physiological rhythms between human individuals and even between humans and animals.
These biofields may similarly account for the apparent success of the "energetic medicine" of our Eastern traditions (despite dismissal by the conventional biomedical paradigm). The energetic modalities, which can invoke physiological coherence, seem sufficiently powerful at a molecular level to elicit changes in the structure of water and DNA conformation. Again recent researchers have shown how increased coherence within and between the bioelectromagnetic systems of the body, which can also be invoked with feelings of appreciation, is associated with enhanced hormonal profiles, humoral immunity, cognitive performance and psychological health, as well as improvements in disease states such as asthma, diabetes, congestive heart failure, HIV/AIDS and hypertension.
It seems we may now be witnessing the early stages of an exponentially growing appreciation that (due to our enmeshment within the greater macrocosm of the solar system) cosmic, gravitational, diurnal and geomagnetic forces entrain human biological rhythms to such an extent that energetic variations emanating from these fields have profound implications for human health and global behaviours. And these forces get to influence human biofields hand in hand with their effects on biophoton emission. In addition solar, lunar and gravitational forces seemingly can elicit physiological aberrations associated with pathological states underscoring a deeply rooted traditional belief that harmony with cosmic, planetary and environmental forces is essential for our health.
The core idea involved is that the bioelectromagnetic body is a reincarnation of the ancient notion of a “life energy” which pervades many traditional cultures, and this purported biofield is now beginning to yield its properties and interactions to the scientific method. And perhaps we can soon look forward to these concepts providing a firm evidence base for many of the energetic healing arts, intangible psychic and social phenomena and food-as-medicine therapeutic approaches...as well as harnessing them to enhance human health in myriad other ways.
